Leon, Blu and Jul and the Mama Ruta’s weaving shuttle in Brazil | written by Leon (com tradução)

In 2011 when the Rio cartoon movie was launched I was two years old knowing not too much, but with Rio 2 (launched in 2014) I started to understand many things and put the Rio movies close to my heart. I told this to may grandmother (who is a sort of globe-trotter) and she promised me that we’ll go together to Rio and see all the places where Blu and Jewel had their adventures. And this has happend now in 2017 at 8 years old – and I did this in connection with the Mama Ruta’s travel project. My mother, my father and my grandparents travelling around the world have brought their stories and photos to this lovely project. Now is my turn.

When I stepped down from the airplane on the Rio international airport I told my grandparents that every country has its own specific smell. The adults would say that Brazil smell is full of coffee, beaches and endless tropical forests. For me the smell of Brazil is that of well roasted bacon, swimming pool and adventures with blue parrots.

I followed the Blu and (Jul) Jewel’s route in Rio de Janeiro (meaning the Rio of January as it is said at that time of the year the river was discovered – and the people living here are called Carioacas which, in the indigenous language, means „the white man house”), going as far as the Iguassu waterfall’s jungle.

In many of the places I visited I was accompanied by the Mama Ruta’s weaving shuttle tied with the Romanian three-colors-flag ribbon: we stopped in the Municipal Theatre Squere and at the Selaron’s stairs which has 215 steps and more than 2,000 ceramic tiles from 60 countries. We took a stroll on the weaving side-walk of Copacabana and took a photo dressed in a Carnaval suit on the Sambadrome where the world biggest and most popular Carnaval in the world is held every February. In all these places I hade in mind my colorful friends Blu and Jul. Finally I went up through the Tijuca forest to the Corcovado (which means hump-backed) and I took photos with the Christ statue – it has 30 m high and 28 m wide, is made of concrete, and the face was created by the Romanian sculptor Gheorghe Leonida. From here I saw the table mountain from where my little blue winged friends started their journey with the paragliding and than all the way down to their funny landing on the sands of Copacabana beach.

I carried the Mama Ruta’s weaving shuttle with me in many other places in Rio but either I was’t able to take it out from my bag because of the rain or I just simply forgotten.

But we were together (me and the weaving shuttle) up to the Sugar Loaf (this is a big rock where you can climb up using the cable-car and the rock is looking like a lump of sugar as it was the sugar at the begining, in big shining pieces) and I traveled by the old tram from the Cathedral over the Lapa aqueduct till the colored quarter of Santa Teresa same as Blu and Jul did.

Than we flew to the Iguassu waterfall and I visited the Bird Park, I took some pictures with the weaving shuttle and I was dressed with a Romanian „ie” (a beautiful popular shirt).

At the end of my trip I took a picture at the Devil Throat (it has this name because at this point the waterfall is the strongest) and I took a photo of the weaving shuttle together with a three-colored rainbow – red, yellow and blue (as the Romanian flag is).

I still remember now with pleasure about the smell of the crunchy bacon, of the swimming in the pool during the heavy rain (here I found out what a paradox is: to hide from the heavy rain into the swimming pool …) and I recall the memories from every place where Blu and Jul passed by with their friends – so, I remember the smell of Brasil and my adventures with Mama Ruta’s weaving shuttle … and I told all of these to all my friends at school and I said that I love Rio and I’ll always come back with great pleasure, maybe with my parents and my little brother Raul, who is now three years old.
